Wonderhill Farm’s Equine Refuge and rehab provides a safe place to land for retired Therapeutic Riding horses. We feel that it is our responsibility to take care of those horses that have assisted in the healing process of those with special needs. Wonderhill Farm’s is dedicated to promoting wellness and healing.
Holly Carlile has been rehabbing horses off the race track for 25 years. She is also a P.A.T.H. certified instructor and has been working with those with special needs for the past 5 years. She knows first hand how these horses make a difference in people’s lives and wants to provide a home where she can provide the help and care they need to retire in dignity.
Most of these horses will live out their lives here at Wonderhill Farm and others are brought into the Equine Assisted Therapy program. We will not rehome your horse. This is a sanctuary for therapy horses to have a soft landing when retired. They will never leave here and will have hospice care when needed. This is a program that requires no riding and is done between horse and human one-on-one.
Wonderhill Horseshoe Club is made up of sponsors who provide for the care and feeding of Wonderhill Farm therapy horses.
Sponsorship of a horse provides for the daily needs of these amazing animals allowing them to perform life-changing therapeutic activities for individuals of all levels and ages.
Our therapy horses are the backbone of our programming. Horse sponsors help fund the cost of horse care including feed, hay, farrier, dental, vaccinations, and veterinary expenses. The cost to care for one horse is approximately $6,500 annually. Donors may fund a year, or any portion of a year.
We are in need of funding for fencing more pastures to help with soft landings for those needing to be placed. We also need funding for those who need already-processed hay for those with no teeth.

When we first moved to Brenham, we needed a place to board my son’s therapy horse. From the moment I met Holly, I felt seen and heard. I felt accepted. That was what sealed the deal to let her board our precious, irreplaceable horse, Midas.
Midas is Nolan’s therapy horse. He was a rescue when we got him, and his health wasn’t that great. He’s well into his 20’s. But since Holly has been keeping and caring for him his health has improved ten-fold! Holly has taken time to teach me about horse care- from nutrition to bonding to special exercises for his kissing spine. Now he has more muscle, less gut issues and a stronger top line. She is so knowledgeable! Midas is happy and feeling good now. He even plays with other horses now, which isn’t something I had seen him do much of before. So both my son and his horse have been blessed here!
